Greywell Walk January 2019

This a circular walk around the village of Greywell, Hampshire.

The Pub, the Fox & Goose is on The Street, Greywell, near where you will park.

From their website in 2020:

We offer a "pre-walk" ordering service where you can reserve a table, order your food and drinks before you leave providing us with your estimated time of return. Your food and drinks will be ready for you shortly after your return.

We are also happy for walkers to use the car park and restroom facilities if they intend to pop in for lunch or a drink after their walk.

Car Park

This walk starts on the The Street, Greywell. We parked on this road - there are no yellow lines but park sensitively for the home-owners.

The Route.

1. Starting somewhere near the lychgate for St Mary's church head left (if you're standing outside the gates looking at the road)

2. Head up The Street (The St.) as it becomes Nately Road, passed Upton Grey Road, Take the left fork = White Lane.

3. You'll pass farm buildings but the lane will become a bridleway.

4. Stay on this until it becomes a cross-roads of bridleways. Turn right - this is actually a named lane  - Down Lane, but was a very muddy track when we were there in January.

5. Your path will be on the right down the boundary between two very open fields.

6. At the end of this field carry on directly - following the left hand boundary of the field in front of you - cross the farm track at the end of the field and continue on the path directly in front of you.

7. Continue to the end of this next field there's a house on the left with a tennis court - and beautiful snow drops in January - you might see St Stephen's church in front of you - and you're heading there - follow the path through a small wood to Greywell Road and have a rest at the church.

8. Leave the grounds of St Stephens and continue down Greywell Road. (if you're standing on the grounds of the church you should head down the road to the right).

9. About 100 metres you'll see your path on the left. The path curves to the right at the end up to the bend of Heather Row Lane.

10. Continue up Heather Row Lane until the road bends to the right in front of you. The path continues into a wood through a kissing gate.

10.  The path emerges near the top of a grassy hill - your ultimate destination is at the bottom.

11. Take the path down the slope towards the wooded corner.

12. Follow the path down - a steep slope on the right of the path is fenced off.

13. This path ultimately emerges onto The Street - turn right to return to your car further up the road.
