Swallowfield Circular Walk 7 miles

This is a gentle sunday-lunch walk around Swallowfield village.

There is a pub right in the middle of the village- The Crown.

Car Park

Depending on the day you walk we have parked at All Saints Church but you could also easily start by parking at the Medical Surgery car park if it was a sunday and the church was being used.

This walk assumes a start at the Medical Surgery.

The Route

1. Leave the Medical Surgery car park and turn left.

2. At the roundabout cross the road and head into the estate land of Swallowfield Park - taking the path to the left of the old gate house.

3. Head towards the Pitt bridge, cross it and take the path along the river to the right.

4. Follow this path until it emerges at the church car park - walk through this onto Church Road.

5. Walk to the left up Church Road then cross it at the left hand bend to the footbridge. Cross the bridge.

6. On the other side of the bridge you walk down a nice narrow path that crosses another footbridge  - this is crossing the old mill race extension to the Blackwater that fed Swallowfield Mill - the house on the opposite side of the bridge near All Saints Church.

7. From the footbridge cross the next two lovely fields - and you emerge on Part Lane. Cross the lane and continue on the footpath which goes down the left hand side of the allotments.

8. The path here is easy to follow here - it continues along the allottments and the boundary of a property until it emerges onto a short cinder track and then Trowe's Lane.

9. Turn Right but then immediately left up Charlton Lane.

10. At the end of Charlton Lane turn left on the Basingstoke Road.

11. Cross the road pretty quickly to turn right down Barge Lane.

12. At the Georgian Manor House junction continue left down Barge Lane.

13.At the junction take right down Kingsbridge Hill.

14. You'll cross the bridge  - you might spot Donkeys and Alpaca in the woods to the left!

15. About 10 m after the bridge take the footpath into the plantation on the right hand side.

16. Follow the path through the plantation emerging into the next field. Follow the right hand side of this field until it emerges down the side of The Mill House Hotel.

17. THIS IS A BUSY ROAD AT TIMES. Cross the road and turn right. You might spot more Alpacas as you do!

18. After passing the house called Girdlers on the left take Swallowfield Street and turn left.

19. Follow this road until you reach the Swallowfield roundabout - turn right here to head back to the Medical Surgery Car Park and The Crown!
